GIVING DECISION MAKERS THE PRACTICAL EVIDENCE THEY NEED

Policy-Ready Papers

The Centre teams up with leading Ontario researchers to produce policy-ready papers that are directly relevant to child and youth mental health. Reports on youth violence and poverty are available now, as well as a summary of how aboriginal and western world views affect our perceptions of mental health issues.

Product

The Centre’s policy-ready papers examine what we know about issues directly relevant to child and youth mental health and how that information can be used to make effective public policy decisions. Each paper is produced in partnership with one or more respected Ontario experts. There are currently three policy-ready papers available on the Centre’s website:

Purpose

Building a case for strategic investment in the child and youth mental health system will require a strong and comprehensive review of evidence as it relates to correlate issues like poverty, violence and education.

Policy-ready papers help decision makers respond to pressing issues in effective, timely and evidence-based ways. By partnering with Ontario’s leading experts on child and youth mental health and related issues, the Centre is supporting decision makers in their efforts to implement wise policies that result in widespread benefits for children and youth.

Background

While policy-ready papers on poverty and youth violence were produced in response to requests by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, subsequent reports are being proactively developed to address emerging concerns and opportunities in child and youth mental health. A fourth paper on integration in child and youth mental health is nearing completion, while a fifth paper investigating school-based mental health is in development.
