AN ONLINE RESOURCE DIRECTORY FOR YOUR COMMUNITY Product eMentalHealth.ca is an online mental health resource directory that helps people find out where they get help for mental health problems in their region. This resource was first piloted in the Ottawa region, and is now available to communities across Ontario. eMentalHealth.ca uses custom-designed, open-source software that makes it affordable for all communities. Once established, an eMentalHealth satellite site is populated and maintained by a lead organization. Users can contribute to the site by submitting comments or recommendations that can be viewed and evaluated by administrators. Purpose Mental health problems are very common, yet those who are struggling often don’t know where to go for help. eMentalHealth.ca helps them by providing an online directory that lists the services available in their community as well as upcoming events related to mental health. The purpose of eMentalHealth.ca is to facilitate access to mental health services by providing centralized access to information about what kinds of help are available. It also aims to help communities create and maintain online service listings with minimal cost. Background eMentalHealth.ca was founded and developed by Dr. Michael Cheng, a psychiatrist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Amy Martin, clinician at the Crossroads Children’s Centre. After a successful pilot launch in the Ottawa region, communities from across Ontario and Canada expressed interest in developing their own eMentalHealth directory. The Centre has supported eMentalHealth since its inception and recently assumed responsibility for the initiative’s management and expansion.
