Grants and Awards

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE CENTRE’S 2010-11 GRANTS AND AWARDS

The inaugural contract among the Provincial Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health (the Centre), the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) comes to an end in March 2010. While the Centre will enter into a new contract with MCYS in 2010-11, we are currently unable to commit to funding new projects in the next fiscal year. As a result, research grants and training awards have been temporarily suspended while the Centre and MCYS work together to renew the Centre’s mandate and identify ways to build on our significant accomplishments.

Current award recipients are not affected by this funding interruption, and should continue to carry out their grant-related activities.

A planned external evaluation of the Centre conducted between December 2008 and July 2009 provided valuable insight into our first five years of operation. It identified significant contributions as well as opportunities for improvement.

Throughout the evaluation, stakeholders across the province unanimously expressed that a centre of excellence is needed in Ontario and should continue to be funded by MCYS.

In the coming months, the Centre will work collaboratively with CHEO and MCYS to refine its mandate and strategies to best meet the needs of service providers and improve outcomes for children and youth. The new contract will continue to reflect the key goals of improving the uptake of evidence-based practices within community-based agencies and fostering increased quality and effectiveness of child and youth mental health services.

In other areas, it’s business as usual at the Centre. We are pleased to continue to offer a range of exciting products – including innovative consulting services, a growing series of practical webinars, policy-ready research papers and an ever-expanding list of tools and resources – each designed to help our diverse stakeholders promote the best mental health and well-being for every child and youth.

The Centre is here for you. For information about our products, services and activities, we invite you to explore our website or contact us at onthepoint@cheo.on.ca.

The Centre is committed to building capacity in the child and youth mental health sector, in part through our Grants and Awards Program. This is being accomplished by:

  • Developing new knowledge;
  • Establishing new networks and partnerships; and
  • Increasing the skills of those working in child and youth mental health through a variety of training initiatives.

The Centre provides funding to child and youth mental health researchers in all stages of their careers through a variety of grants and awards (for more information on specific funding opportunties, please refer to the individual grants and awards sections).

For more information on grant and award recipients, their funded projects and achieved outcomes, visit our Grants and Awards Index.

Research Grants

The Centre’s research grants program is currently under review in efforts to re-align our priorities with trends in building capacity around program evaluation and evidence-based practice. Implications for future funding cycles will be communicated broadly once available.

Dare to Dream Program

The Centre has also created the Dare to Dream Program to help youth (under 18 years of age) become more aware of mental health and to support them in promoting mental health awareness activities to their peers and their community. Visit the Dare to Dream Program website...
